Outdoor workshops may change due to weather. We keep an eye on the forecast, and if we need to change the date, we'll talk with you to find the best alternative. We target 1-2 days away from the planned date or the same day of the following week.

About This Workshop
The Northwest Aperture team will take you to capture a stunning waterfall in the Gorge in a unique way.
In this workshop, we will demonstrate techniques and help you capture waterfalls at night using various techniques for both photographing and lighting the scene.
This workshop is for everyone from novice photographers to experienced or simply anyone looking for a fun, unique experience with a group.
After the workshop, Northwest Aperture will schedule a Zoom training session to review images and demonstrate post-processing techniques.
(This workshop includes an additional lighting technique and planning compared to the standard workshop.)
What You Get
Personal attention: this workshop is limited in number to provide individual instruction.
On-site instruction: how to successfully capture a waterfall scene with the right exposure, focusing techniques, shooting for later blends, and the challenges of shooting after dark.
Follow-up instruction: 1-hour Zoom class covering choosing and editing your best photos (including blends) and tips for your next adventure.
What to Bring & Prepare
Certain equipment is required and participants will need a basic understanding of photography. Be sure to bring:
DSLR or Mirrorless Camera with the ability to manually control shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. (Or a phone with a camera app that allows manual control.)
Lenses: wide-angle is important, such as something covering 15 or 20mm (full frame equivalent). Telephoto (such as 24-100mm range) is useful for alternate compositions.
Tripod is critical.
Remote shutter release (you can use the self-timer on your camera if you donβt have one).
Appropriate clothing for possible wind and chilly temperatures.
And be sure to review or that you understand:
How to use Manual mode on your camera and adjust the aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
How to use your remote shutter release or how to use the self-timer on your camera (if you donβt have a remote shutter release).
Using manual focus and adjusting focus modes in your camera.
Using the histogram on your camera to validate exposure (if it has this feature).
The Fine Print
Weather: we will make every effort to check weather forecasts and communicate with participants regarding the forecast for the area. We will communicate with the group via email in the days leading up to the workshop if an alternate date becomes necessary due to the weather.
Transportation: participants are responsible for their own transportation. If you wish to coordinate with other participants, you may start a discussion on our Facebook events page.
Facilities: public restrooms may not be available; please plan accordingly.
